What Shibani’s Reading: Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza

I have been dancing around the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza for years.  First in the film, What The Bleep Do We Know, and then in podcasts online, where he describes his experience healing his spinal injury with methodical meditative techniques.

Since then, he’s been on a scientific quest to validate and promote the powers of meditation, harnessing energy and rewiring the brain.  I have been wanting to more deeply understand the science behind the connection between the brain, thoughts and energy and found this to be an excellent ‘how-to’ book on those concepts.

… we can intentionally change our brain chemistry to initiate profoundly mystical transcendental experiences; and how, if we do this enough times, we can develop the skill of creating a more efficient, balanced, healthy body, a more unlimited mind, and greater access to the realms of spiritual truth.

– Dr. Joe Dispenza

This book starts with the nuts and bolts of energy on a cellular level.  He then expands the energetic connection to your thoughts, your entire body and the events in your life. His reference to multiple, research-based scientific studies to explain and clearly draw a connection between your thoughts, emotions and events in your life are the most compelling arguments I’ve seen to validate new-age practices.    He also cites studies done by Heart Math, which I highly respect, and its methodology based on the heart-brain link.

He also details his (kundalini-based) techniques for cultivating our powerful energy to help manifest – whether it be dream jobs, mates or better health, as well.  He also combines chakras (energy center) balancing and other ancient techniques in a unique approach, of which he describes but doesn’t go into in-depth detail.

The technique-focused chapters didn’t interest me as much, as I give more reverence to Yogi Bhajan’s kundalini techniques, as awakening kundalini energy can be a powerful experience and should be approached carefully.  But, I appreciated learning about his practice.

For anyone looking to connect-the-dots on the physical body and the energetic realm (aka quantum field or the mystical realm), you will enjoy this book.

Happy reading!
