The missing magic in manifestation: your words

Sure, you can vision board, say affirmations and pray. But a missing ingredient in manifesting the life of your dreams comes from how you perceive what’s happening in life. Do you believe the world is conspiring for your good? If not, the rest matters less.

My birthday ritual of clairvoyance

Every October around my birthday, I like to take time for a personal check-in with a clairvoyant. It always feels like a ripe moment to pause, reflect and align for the year ahead. In this season, I find myself particularly receptive, reflective, and motivated.

Self-reflection and work helps, but a truly gifted clairvoyant can help you see a vision for yourself before you can fully see it yourself. A good clairvoyant can help you see a vision for yourself before you see it for yourself and gives you encouragement, not advice.

I had my birthday session this year with a card-reading clairvoyant, Faith, referred by a friend and a reader for a GOOP-y person we have all heard of. I started my session by letting her turn cards and read based on her intuition. Faith criss-crossed topics like relationships, career and children as I sat in listening mode.

As she spoke, I took particular note of her language. It struck me how naturally positive, optimistic, and deeply grateful her phrasing was, even when touching on challenging or uncertain topics:

  • “Thank Spirit for closing that door…”
  • “Stay open to what is assembling behind the scenes…”
  • “Can you see the subtle magic and miracles in how that unfolded?”
  • “Can you feel that you are on the verge of something higher?”
  • “Say thank you for the daily safety, guidance, and vitality you receive.”

We’ve all know about gratitude practices, but Faith’s language – and belief system of life – is energetically charged with gratitude.

Eventually, Faith finished her reading, and I jumped in with my burning questions: “Thank you so much for all of this, Faith. But I really wanted to talk about how stuck I’m feeling with…”

She interrupted me mid-sentence.

“Stop right there, Shibani,” she said gently. “My darling, watch your language. Clean it up.”

She reminded me that our words, and even more subtly, our subconscious belief systems are being broadcast into the world. They become the energetic blueprint by which events unfold in our lives. Words merely reflect these beliefs. This is why affirmations alone can feel fake and ineffective. It’s the belief system behind it that matters more.

“Don’t put ‘stuck’ energy out into the universe,” Faith advised. “Change how you perceive the moment first. See the possibilities and hidden gifts right where you are. Then, adapt your language to match.”

I nodded, understanding the difference.

Re-framing being “stuck”

It might sound Woo Woo 101 to be intentional with our vocabulary, but our words directly reveal our mindset. Everything flows from whether we operate out of an expanded or contracted view of the world.

Do you believe the Universe is working in your favor, even during the hard times or has it let you down?

Perceiving even the quiet, seemingly “stuck” moments as intentionally orchestrated for our highest good required a genuine shift in my perspective. I began asking myself new questions:

  • What if I am not actually stuck, but simply waiting?
  • What if the right opportunities and people are being brought together at this exact moment to lay the tracks for something bigger?
  • What if my only job right now is to yield to divine timing?

Why couldn’t these things be just as true as the story I am telling myself about feeling stuck?

“I get it, Faith,” I said with excitement. “Who knows what’s building behind the scenes? Who am I to say nothing is happening? Great things take time. The right path will unfold, and I’ve seen this happen in my life before.”

Faith smiled with excitement. “Yes! Say: ‘I am rebuilding, rebooting, recharging, and reinventing right now. Thank you for where I am, knowing that the right doors will open when the timing is perfect.'”

“Ask for the good stuff,” she added. “Believe that the Universe is working for you.”

Because it is.

Believing the power of co-creation

The subtle magic of life is working within you every single day. Doors open without forcing if you think about it: healing happens naturally and larger forces are continually guiding our trajectory.

The co-creation process is happening in every moment, whether we consciously notice it or not. Our responsibility is to maintain energetic awareness and keep an open hand to whatever comes our way, knowing it is being guided to us for a reason. The good, the bad and the unexpected.

This shift takes the pressure off us to drive all the efforts of our life alone. It recognizes that higher forces at play and gives us back our agency through our thoughts, words and core beliefs.

This isn’t toxic positivity or ignoring reality. It’s about the lens through which we look at life, our wins and disappointments, while holding an underlying trust that we are supported through the process.

If a door closes or an effort falls short, instead of wallowing in loss, we can shift the narrative:

Thank you, Universe, for this intervention. Thank you for closing doors that were not meant for me, and for preparing the path toward brighter, more aligned opportunities ahead.”

Living and practicing

This single shift in perspective has been revelatory for me. Daily, I’ve been integrating this framing into my gratitude practice and my thinking

It takes conscious practice, but the underlying current creates a sense of support I hadn’t fully tapped into before. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at truly begin to change. What a marvelous way to look at life, don’t you think?

A reflection

Where in your life are you describing yourself as “stuck” right now? How might your energy shift if you viewed this season of rebooting, rebuilding, or preparation for what’s next?
